Soft Embalming, Surgical Training, and Beyond: A Vision for Modern Anatomy by Dr. Bernhard Hirt

This enriching academic exchange was made possible under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Navneet Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy, KGMU.

Today, I had the privilege of meeting and learning from Dr. Bernhard Hirt, MD, Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Institute of Clinical Anatomy and Cell Analysis, University of Tübingen, Germany, during his visit to our department at KGMU.

Dr. Hirt delivered a deeply insightful and engaging lecture, where he shared advanced practices and philosophies in anatomical sciences, including:

🫀 Advanced soft embalming techniques used in German medical training

🧬 A comprehensive overview of the body donation programme in Germany

📘 Innovative teaching methodologies and the evolution of anatomy education at the University of Tübingen

A highlight of the session was learning about their world-class Surgical Training Center, a pioneering initiative run by the Department of Anatomy at Tübingen, where anatomists play a lead role in training clinicians and surgeons. This model represents a progressive blend of anatomical precision with surgical excellence—something we aspire to develop in our own educational systems.

It was an immensely enriching experience to explore how global standards and interdisciplinary models can shape the future of anatomy education in India.

Grateful for this opportunity for meaningful academic exchange and collaboration!
